Our Thelonious Monk Luck
We are embarassed to admit that yesterday, unlike most Americans, we did not cue up Brlliant Corners and prostrate ourselves before our stereo system in traditional observance of Thelonious Monk's birthday. We did find time to listen to Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane - At Carnegie Hall but that was 'round midnight and seemed a half hearted attempt at supplication given that we had also missed WKCR's 24 hour broadcast of Monk's music. Go easy on us. Next year will mark Monk's 90th. We will don black beanies and genuflect.
